Utah mom creates do-it-yourself hair extensions - 4Utah.com

Danielle Lindsey had spent years in the search for perfect hair, she did the extensions; but it just didn't work! Especially when she started having kids.

Danielle said, "I have always had really thin hair and I was introduced to hair extensions and found them too time consuming and they got really expensive and damaging to my hair."

Instead of giving up on her search for long hair, Danielle decided to come up with something new

Danielle said, "I was sure I wasn't the only one looking for a solution trying to same time and money."

She got to work trying to put together a hair extension that she could put in herself.

Danielle explained the process, "I would go to craft stores and look online and play around with it. I got my first sewing machine. I wanted to make it simple."

Danielle's final creation: the Lock 'n Long Hair Extension System.

With a packet of tools and the hair you get permanent hair extensions in only 15 minutes.

Each of the extensions go into the same place as the expensive and time intensive extensions you have to get done professionally, but Danielle's version is a do-it-yourself version.

Danielle said, "If you look good you feel good and that's why i created it and put them in."

Danielle is offering $100 off for ABC4 Utah Midday viewers, just use the code "good" on her website: Lock 'n Long Hair Extensions.

Love me some Twist Me Pretty! Her today’s hairstyle is sponsored by us- Lock N’ Long Hair Extensions!

Here is link:

"I know, this hairstyle is soooo simple.  But honestly that’s what I love about it!  This hairstyle is so much cuter than your regular ponytail and takes only a few extra minutes.  I think it’s an appropriate style for spring don’t you?!  I’ve had so many requests for quick buns and fast morning styles so I’ll try to get some in here before the challenge is over…  Say WHAAA?!  I swear it just started.  Can you believe we are 18 days in?!  Holy moly.  And seriously, the hashtag — you guuuuyyyss!!  I wish I had time to respond to all of your posts.  I will get to it sooner or later!  But seriously I’m so proud.  You guys are doing SUCH a great job at styling these hairstyles!  Even the hard ones you’re totally getting!  I’m always a little nervous that I haven’t taught it well and that no one will understand, but the proof is in the pudding.  I’m like a proud parent over here! haha!  Thanks for indulging me with the hashtag, I literally cannot get enough of it!  PS, it’s #thirtythirtyhair just FYI.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  1. Gather the front section of hair
  2. Divide into three sections
  3. French braid until the back of your head
  4. Pull the rest of the hair up into a ponytail
  5. Optional: Wrap the ponytail with an accessory
  6. Spray the leftover curls or texture with hairspray or I love Redkin Wool

 “Videos” for Installation Tutorial
“FAQ’s” for Helpful Tips and Care Instructions

Helpful Tips:

Loopers are Pre- attached (SAVE them for Refills!)
Loopers can shift during shipping- prior to installing make sure looper are not wrapped around the T-bar, they should be in front.
Beads are Pre-Attached (Refill every 6-8 weeks as beads weaken over time- Refill kits available online)
Slide beads right to your scalp the crimp bead FLAT with Pliers.  This will create ease when tightening or removing later.
SLEEPING: Gather hair in HIGH ponytail (by forehead) so all rows are folded upwards to sleep.
RE-TIGHTEN: Simply crimp the bead slightly open with pliers and slide up towards scalp and them crimp bead flat again. Due to washing, drying brushing some of the beads can loosen faster then others
RE-FILL: Remove entire row from scalp.
Crimp bead slightly open and slip up over the "t-bar" to remove old bead. With Pliers make “t-bar” vertical and slip old bead off and new bead on.

Troubleshoot:
Looper won’t slide through the Bead?
Solution:  Loopers can shift during shipping-  prior to installing make sure looper are not wrapped around the T-bar, looper should be in front. --OR-- You have pulled too much of your hair through the looper and it won’t fit through the bead. Remove some of your hair and try again.

My Personal Routine

Color: Utah Blonde

My personal routine after washing the Lock'n Long hair extensions with Salon quality Shampoo & Conditioner (I wash every 4-5 days):
  1. Leave-in Conditioner/ Oil treatment
  2. Roll damp hair in huge Velcro rollers
  3. Air dry (As long as possible)
  4. Apply "Thermal Heat Spray"
  5. Blowdry (Low heat settings)
  6. Flat Iron (to tame the extensions)
  7. I usually leave straight the first 2 days then by day 3-5 I curl them.

I use good ol' baby powder as my "dry Shampoo" and apply to roots so I can go 4-5 days without washing my hair.

Sleeping: Always high ponytail (by forehead) and secure with a clip.  Or if it's curled: a High loose bun (by forehead) and secure with a clip. This is for comfort as the rows get flipped upward along with making less  of a tangled mess!

Check out our FAQ page

Other tips:
While by nature long hair tends to tangle more easily than short hair, tangling and frizzes can be prevented or minimized by proper care and maintenance.Since human hair extensions are prone to heat and dryness damage, it is recommended to use moisturizing and repairing shampoos, conditioners or leave-in creams . We strongly recommend using moisturizing and nourishing oils or shine sprays (e.g., Moroccanoil, sleek- serum CHI) to keep hair extensions silky and less likely to tangle when combing or styling. Avoid teasing or back combing extensions. On the market professional brand care products have ingredients to restore or replenish moisture to hair but cheaper products tend to use fillers like silicone that just smooth hair but create buildup on hair.
If the hair gets frizzy or dry looking, apply or spray the above mentioned conditioners or oils; make sure all moisture is out of hair extensions prior to style and applications. The hair needs to be treated very often with moisture oils due to the fact the extensions do not have a healthy scalp to nourish it.
If tangling has occurred, remove wefts from your hair and brush out knots by gently combing or brushing from below to release tangles. Spray shine or use oil to prevent re-occurrence.
